It is a real pleasure to share the experience we have lived in Brazil The population of Brazil is 190 million inhabitants. Fortaleza, where I come from, is the fifth largest city in the country with 2.2 million people. We work with the community in the Pirambu slum that has 200,800 people. La economía solidaria en Brasil, como en otras partes en el mundo, es algo muy antiguo. Está presente en muchos lugares donde las comunidades intentaban construir un proceso de trabajo y de vida. En Brasil podemos encontrar muchas experiencias de movimientos de kilombos de esclavos, de mujeres, donde está presente esto que llamamos el principio comunal, o el principio de las comunidades. En Brasil hay muchas experiencias de lo que llamamos, la economía solidaria: cooperativas, asociaciones, poder local y territorial que están dispersas por todo el país. Con el ascenso de Lula como presidente fue creada una secretaria nacional de economía solidaria, para fomentar educación y desarrollar la economía solidaria en el país. También tenemos 11 ministerios que desarrollan experiencias de la economía solidaria. Para nosotros la economía solidaria con base en la autogestión es una estrategia de movimiento social que reúne a los trabajadores de todo el país, realizando congresos y elaborando una plataforma y un proyecto político para pensar en otra sociedad y en otro mundo... “¡Otro mundo es posible!” Decirlo invita a la pregunta, ¿Qué tipo de mundo queremos? las respuestas en todos los países invariablemente son las mismas: Un mundo sin guerras, sin hambre ni pobreza, con derechos humanos y democracia, protección del medio ambiente, ¡la paz y la justicia en la tierra! Prout son las siglas en inglés de Teoría de la Utilización Progresiva (“Progressive Utilization Theory”), un nuevo modelo socio-económico basado en la autosuficiencia de cada región, el sistema cooperativo, el equilibrio ambiental y los valores espirituales universales. El fundador de Prout fue Prabhat Ranjan Sarkar (1921-1990), filósofo hindú, autor de más de 400 libros, compositor musical y maestro espiritual. También fue prisionero político por siete años debido a la posición de Prout contra la explotación. Nunca he encontrado a nadie que tuviera tanto amor incondicional para todos. Es un placer para mí compartir nuestra experiencia Brasileña. Brasil tiene una población de 190 millones de habitantes. Que fortalecen la ciudad de donde vengo, la quinta ciudad brasileña que tiene 2.200.000 habitantes, y nosotros trabajamos en la comunidad, la favela de Pirambu que tiene 200.080 habitantes, y eso es para situar de donde les estoy hablando. Social transformation is impossible without personal transformation. I have been searching for personal transformation, as you search for personal transformation. In 1960s I first heard about the founder of Prout and in 1967 someone whispered to me that the founder of Prout, Prabhat Ranjan Sarkar, was coming to Manila (Philippines). At that time I was a seeker of knowledge, excellence and personal transformation. The rector of the university where I had studied for 15 years told me about Prabhat Ranjan Sarkar, who was coming to the Philippines in one year. He said that those who wanted to meet the founder of Ananda Marga and Prout, had to register one year before in order to attend the convention. He said that all people hoping to attend should prepare themselves for that entire year, practicing ethics, morality, proper nutrition, yoga and meditation. I took the challenge. When we want to make social change in the world, whether it’s about the environment or in any area, we have to be good leaders to do that. So I would like to talk about P.R. Sarkar’s vision of leadership. P.R. Sarkar was the founder of Prout. He lived from 1921 to 1990 in India. We all have experienced mediocre leaders: people who want power for personal gain, who perhaps aren’t clear about where they’re going, who can easily be bought out, who lack the skills to really organize their work.
