PROUT is an acronym of the Progressive Utilisation Theory, which gives an idea that the great changes needed in modern capitalist society, will not happen in a single day, but are the result of a long process of education in the creation of new human values such as solidarity, social justice, freedom, initiative, responsibility, teamwork, etc. We in Venezuela are fortunate that an extraordinary group of social advocates of various nationalities has come here, led by a man of towering moral qualities, Dada Maheshvarananda. With his book, After Capitalism, and especially with their gifts of simplicity and sincere friendship, they have managed to raise awareness among quite a few Venezuelans that it is possible to have a better Venezuela. Nuestro proyecto “Aparigraha”, nombre Sanscrito, que traducimos como no codiciar o no atesorar, es el quinto Yama o principio ético descrito en las Yoga Sutras de Maharishi Patanjali. Elegimos este nombre para nuestro proyecto porque la codicia es el alimento del que se nutre el Capitalismo. Nosotros los indígenas somos libre desde nuestro nacimiento y socialista por nuestra cultura autóctona. El Delta parece desde el aire una gran raíz, vuelve múltiple el cauce Del Orinoco, en ese mundo, la selva reina, con su humedad y su verdor, allí la presencia aborigen de los Warao los convierte en los herederos del agua y de la naturaleza, en esa tierra que en los mapas aparece como Territorio Federal Delta Amacuro. La tranquilidad ancestral del warao se trastoco hace 52 años cuando los malabares de la ingeniería y la visión de un progreso que no toma en cuenta al hombre arrasaron con hectáreas enteras de selva cerraron el cauce de un caño, caño Manamos. Para tragarse en sus aguas especies vegetales y animales y con ellos 2600 waraos que murieron aislados abandonados inundados acosados por una suerte de maldición que no les cabía en su nombre y en su cosmogonía... What I will talk about is in the context of the National Development Plan of Venezuela 2007-2013, and I will refer to fundamental ethics. In 2007, according to the National Development Plan diagnosis, the situation of social economy enterprises was quite small in comparison with lucrative private capitalist enterprises that were greatest in number, the most important and which represented the paradigm that was imitated by most people. Fewer in number were what the report called “Capitalist Enterprises of the Socialist State.” In the middle were mixed enterprises. This was the situation in 2007. In 2013, which will soon be here, the social economy enterprises should be equally or more important than private capitalist enterprises, and should be larger and more important than the capitalist enterprises of the State in terms of their input to the gross domestic product.
